Hi there, I’m Leigh-Anne, Cake Artist & Founder of Leigh-Anne's Flower Cake Design based in Manchester and serving Manchester, Cheshire and the wider North West of the UK.
People are often amazed to learn that my flowers are handcrafted from sugar. At first glance, many mistake them for fresh blooms, but each one is meticulously shaped by hand, often inspired by the beauty of my own garden.
I’m excited to share a quick behind-the-scenes look at how I assemble an open sugar flower rose. It’s a stunning feature that can transform any wedding cake into a showstopper!
Using the finest flower paste and a selection of my favourite sugarcraft tools, I carefully shape and wire each petal. Each one is then left to dry completely, allowing it to achieve a natural, lifelike appearance. Once dry, I apply a delicate dusting of edible colours to bring the petals to life.
The petals are then attached in layers:

With the final petals in place, the rose is complete.
This meticulous process ensures that the flower not only looks beautiful but also as realistic as possible. Whether arranged alongside other handcrafted sugar flowers or displayed on its own, this open rose creates an unforgettable impression. It's delicate, elegant, and so lifelike that it often leaves people speechless!
Creating sugar flowers is such a time-consuming process. Most take hours—or even days—to complete, but I'm sure you'll agree that the artistry and beauty of each one make it all worth it!
Take a moment to explore our gallery, where you’ll find examples of this open sugar rose beautifully incorporated into a variety of my wedding cake designs.
With all that said, are you ready to enquire about your dream wedding cake?
Thank you for letting me share a bit of my craft with you. I hope it inspires your next special cake design!
